The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) officially began to apply across the EU this month. It is designed to reduce packaging waste and encourage a more circular economy.
If your business supplies packaged goods into the EU, this is will impact you. The new regulation introduces wide-ranging requirements around the way packaging is designed, manufactured, used, labelled and managed at the end of its life. The overall aim is to reduce the amount of packaging waste produced, increase recycling and make better use of resources.
At Keeley Packaging, we’ve been working behind the scenes to help our customers prepare for PPWR, including collating compliance information and documentation for customers who need it to demonstrate that their packaging meets the relevant requirements.
Our PPWR Compliance Data Packs include the following information for each item we supply:
- The materials used in each component of the item
- Recycled content %
- Overall packaging weights as well as individual components
- Whether a technical data sheet is available
- Recyclability, collection route and material stream information
- REACH compliance confirmation
- Heavy Metals Compliance confirmation (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr(VI))
We know that gathering this information from multiple packaging suppliers can be time-consuming, particularly when businesses are managing a large number of different packaging components. Our aim is to make this process as straightforward as possible for our customers by doing the groundwork and providing the information we have available to demonstrate compliance for the packaging we supply.
Although 12 August 2026 marked the start of PPWR’s application, the regulation is being introduced in stages, with additional requirements coming into effect over the coming years. Keeley Packaging will continue working with our customers as these requirements develop, helping to ensure that the information surrounding the packaging we supply is available when our customers need it.
If you’re reviewing your packaging as a result of PPWR, or you need supporting information for the packaging supplied by Keeley Packaging, please get in touch with us. We’ll be happy to discuss your requirements and provide the information required to help you keep your packaging records up to date.
